ASHI to Oversee U.S. National Program

The American Street Hockey Institute to Oversee National Program

The American Street Hockey Institute, the governing body of street, ball and dekhockey in the United States, is proud to be chosen to oversee the future U.S. national teams and support the U.S. National program. The following is a press release issued by Domenic DiGironimo of the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation, the world governing body of ball hockey:
“The International Street & Ball Hockey Federation is proud to have the American Street Hockey Institute as a partner in our great sport.
“Through ASHI’s leadership we are confident of its representation as the National Governing Body of street hockey, dekhockey, ball hockey, and the variations of the sport. The United States of America has a long and rich history with the game, laying claim to the creation of the orange ball and many other innovations that brought us from the streets and schoolyards into arenas/rinks around the world.
“The ISBHF is a strong supporter of ASHI and its efforts to provide a national tournament series, sport development materials, officiating standards, rules and regulations, and medal-caliber national teams for international competitions.
Our game is enjoyed by youth, men, and women, and is rapidly moving towards being a new age sport for the 21st century, with ASHI as a cornerstone of its future.”
Mark Madden and Chris Housser have done a great job creating and sustaining a high caliber national program and ASHI looks forward to partnering with them in taking this program to the next level.

Cory Herschk has been named Head Coach with Mark Madden as General Manager for the U.S. team that will participate in the 2010 World Junior (under-20) Championships in Austria. Mark, the head coach from 2002-2008, guided the U.S. Juniors to the WJC gold medal in 2006 and bronze in 2008. Cory has coached the Team Pittsburgh Gods to national championships in 2007 and 2009. ASHI has full confidence in their ability to medal in Austria. A support staff for the junior team will be appointed in the near future. Appointment of future men’s and women’s coaches and support staff is also forthcoming.
