The NHL's Penguins and Street Hockey USA hosted the 4th annual Penguins Power Play Street Hockey Tournament Nov. 6-7 at Greater Pittsburgh Dekhockey Center, Penn Hills. Champions were crowned in three youth divisions and four adult divisions. Dave Hanson of “Slap Shot” movie fame was on hand for the 7-9 year-old final.
Forty-nine teams (nearly 400 players) participated! Over $4,000 was raised for Hockey in the ‘Hood, the Penguins’ program that brings hockey to underprivileged inner-city youths.
“The turnout shows that street hockey growth is keeping up with the pace set by ice hockey growth in the Pittsburgh area,” said Mark Madden, tournament director and WXDX-FM radio personality.
“On behalf of Street Hockey USA, I’d like to thank Dave Soltesz of the Penguins for everything the team contributes annually, and the ownership and staff of Greater Pittsburgh Dekhockey. It’s an ideal venue. It was great having Dave Hanson add that old-time hockey feel. It was a perfect weekend. We saw some great hockey.”
